Fly having a scratch

Equipment used:

- Canon 30D

- Canon MP-E65mm lens

- Canon 1.4x converter

- Kirk macro bracket with 580EX flash with Lumiquest diffuser fitted

- MT-24EX flash with Sto-fen OM24-X diffusers fitted

Taken at f/16 according to the camera, but presumably at f/22 due to the converter. 1/250 sec.

This fly was perched on a plant in my back garden. Flies make great subjects because they often perch on the tips of leaves, making it easy to slide a diffuser alongside them (the diffuser is to the left of the fly). They also wait until the last possible moment to fly away, so are quite tolerant of a lens-in-the-face.
