Prague 1990: The Devil man on Charles Bridge Photo 1
The first time I came to Prague was in September 1990. The atmosphere was full of optimism and all was possible. Things were not so controlled. You did not need a permit to do things on Charles Bridge. There was a man on Charles Bridge every day sitting at the same place. He would have a mirror in his hand along with a small canvas with papers attached to it. He'd grimace in the mirror with his tongue sticking out and he would draw a self portrait of himself as the devil. He would decorate the drawings a bit more with devilish embellishments. Usually the drawings would have horns coming out of his forehead. He would sell these drawings to the tourists. After several years, he disappeared. I am sure the police who now guard the Charles Bridge chased him away. I wonder where he is now. He is probably dancing with the devils.
