Cane fire

This is a paddock full of sugar cane. The farmers have to burn it to reduce the "trash" layer, which is all the dry debris that fall off the cane as it grows, and to chase out vermin before they harvest and crush it. This paddock is about 10% of the farmers crop. They burn at dusk because it's cooler and slightly more humid and they have to wait until the wind drops. This one burned faster than it was supposed to but it turned out fine. We got invited out because the farmer just bought a new truck at Mitsubishi (though not from Rob) and Rob asked what he was going to do with it. When he said he was going to beat it up driving around the cane, Rob asked if we could come out and see a cane fire and he obliged!
