Around 1983, Pepsi had a "Challenge" contest. On the bottom of the cap was a letter...if you could spell the word "challenge", you'd win a large amount of money (I think it was $25,000). I had every letter except for an "A". When dad would buy an eight pack, I'd screw off each cap to check for my missing letter. I never did find one.

I remember drinking pop from those in the 80's. They were really hard to pull out of the plastic six-pack thing.

Absolutely, glass always makes beverages taste better!

Yep, I do remember those, as well as that challenge contest.

The bottle-cap contest I remember: It was the caps from the tall 16-ounce glass bottles. You had to spell Pepsi Spirit. There were two series; black-printed letters and then red ones. The R was the rare one, as I recall. Circa 1982.

I hadn't thought about those in the longest time. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, my grandparents would stock the six-packs of 7up bottles with the styrofoam labels, along with similar packs of tonic water and club soda. I think one can still find tonic water and club soda in that style, but the regular soda kind just disappeared at some point.

In my early years I lived in small town, in the 80's as I was growing up each time my dad, broher and I would go to the town usually to get gas for his truck he would buy each of us a soda. My brother would get a coke, my dad a pepsi and I would get the smaller pepsi in the glass botte. I miss the glass botle pepsi it tasted so good.

You don't know how much time I spent peeling the styrofoam lables off my bottles...

This one brought back the memories, peeling off the styrofoam label and trying to get it all in one long, curling piece.

I really love your collection; thanks for sharing!

I loved the way those labels peeled off!

Man, one of those and a frozen snickers from the corner market was a staple of my summer days.

Does plastic make soda taste different? I ask because everyone says they taste better in glass bottles. :)

I love the 80's Pepsi, I hate the blue logo thing they have used for years

It's like 1985 all over again. I haven't thought about these bottles since then. There was always a bottle of this in the fridge at our house, and it did taste a little different than the can version. However, my drink of choice back then was "New York Seltzer". I could drink that stuff by the gallon.
I don't like the new pepsi logo either, which to me looks like a cheap knock-off the Obama campaign logo.

I'm glad I can buy soda in glass bottles here. I don't like the taste of soda in plastic bottles or cans. I also drank my share of New York Seltzer soda...

I was born in 1987, so unfortunately, Im used to drinking soda from a plastic bottle. I have had Coke in both glass and plastic bottles, but I don't remember a difference between the two.
