1736 Henry Antes House

By FRANK WHELAN

Of The Morning Call:

Henry Antes was born in 1701 and given the name Johann Heinrich Antes. His birthplace was the little walled Rhenish Palatinate town of Freinsheim. For more than 100 years, this region bad felt the tread of marching armies. The Thirty Years War, a bloody religious conflict that devasted (sic) Europe from 1618 to 1648, had been particularly hard on Henry Antes’ family — they came out on the losing side. His ancestor, Baron von Blume, was forced to give up his lands and title. To avoid persecution, the baron had the family named changed from Blume to Antes, its Greek equivalent.

    spookyfoto,
I liked what you had to say about the shadows in the above photo because i was the person who dug up quite a few small sycamore saplings from down near the creek across the bridge one summer ... I think they were sycamore saplings ... and planted them about the house and across the road. I carried many a bucket of water to help them establish themselves. I lived in the Antes House from sometime in January 1947 until the summer of 1960.
