Thank you so much for this wonderful photo that brings back to me special memories of trips into DC when I was a child. I have 3 tokens from The Waffle Shop at 619 Pennsylvania Ave, dated 1962, "GOOD FOR ONE FREE WAFFLE." We lived in Clarendon, VA, on N Highland Street. My father was stationed at the Pentagon. Clarendon in those days was a very good place to be a child. I had a lot of freedom. I remember walking to the nearby Safeway to buy some ground meat for my mother to cook for dinner. I was 10 and my mom let me push my baby sister in the stroller all the way there and back. I used to ride my bike into nearby woods to catch frogs, snakes, and lizards. I always had a jar to put them in so I could bring them home to scare my older sisters. My best friend and I would wander far from home in search of different playgrounds in other neighborhoods. I came home when it got dark. I walked to school at Page Elementary. Clarendon was a very good place to be a child in those days.
