Maldina and her spiderlings

Species: ferox/similis

Female + Juveniles, ± 15 mm & 1-2 mm


The female protecting her spiderlings (they look like small lemons with legs).

I'm happy that one of the (very cute) spiderlings looked at the camera, so you can see the differences between the youngs and an adult.


The photo is a handheld focus stack of nineteen shots took with my 50 mm at F/11 reversed on my bellows on my Pentax K5 camera at 400 iso. "High iso" allowed me to avoid too bright reflections on the head of the spider by shooting with the flash at low power. The photos are stacked with Zerene stacker (which deleted the exifs…). Focus stacking really shows how hairy spiders are!
