My friend used to live very near there and she was always bitching about that house. I love it! But if I did that out in Pflugerville, they would probably bee-yatch about me too.

Cool! I drove by that house with a friend a couple of months ago. Teach me to pay attention to details - I thought this was a recent pic.

This pic is from 2003. They painted it again at least once since then, but not yet in 2006.

I suppose you either love it or hate it.I love it.
Interesting how they have drawn attention to themselves and then hidden behind foliage.

It makes sense to me: they have both very public and very private spaces. Their back yard is behind a high wall. I'd love to get a peek inside it some time.

I've read all I can find about this house and find a lot of comment refer to it as 'weird'.
I don't find it so, this is a far more weird thing to do

Ooh, GA, thanks for that link! Back when I had a house I always wanted to commission a sculpture of a UFO crashing into the roof of my garage...

there's a bloke on my train has a hairdo that's a bit like this.

dots on spaces...nice ring to that.

An update -- in Google Street View!

Polka dot lawn in Austin street view

    Coveting this!

The last thing we need in Austin is a water-guzzling non-native lawn. Most grass just does not grow here naturally. This is much better.

MLL, there's a lawn under the polka dots. What you're seeing is painted on the grass in its winter dormant phase. I don't recall what kind of lawn is under there. It might be native (buffalo grass) or non-native (perhaps bermuda).

I'm a bit of a heretic on the subject of lawns. A healthy and well-established lawn doesn't really require that much supplemental watering in Austin. What is horribly wasteful is trying to keep it green in August, when the natural thing is for it to turn dormant.

If you want a lawn that really doesn't require any water at all, try this one. :-)

OK, now I can see brown grass under there. LOL about the astroturf median.

I saw today that she's re-dotted her lawn for fall 2008. It's pink dots this year.
