I visited the Quabbin Reservoir, the source of Greater Boston's drinking water. This enormous reservoir has an incredible history. Four towns were dis-established (Dana, Enfield, Prescott, Greenwich), their entire population moved, and their entire area razed. Then two rivers were impounded (the Swift River and Beaver Brook), forcing the water to fill into this cleared area, becoming a reservoir that can hold over 400 billion gallons of water. The Quabbin is beautiful and peaceful, and I marvel at the planning and engineering that led to it.
