Thresher Paparazzi

Divers wait atop Monad Shoal for the famed thresher sharks to make an appearance. Monad shoal is a submerged sea mount in deep ocean, near the center of the Visayas island chain in the Philippines. Thresher sharks come here from the deep ocean to be cleaned by the reef fish, making this a perfect place to see these very shy, large pelagics. Divers are instructed to stay near the bottom and stationary; it is forbidden to use flash or do anything that might "spook" the sharks. This is considered an advanced dive, since inexperienced divers find it hard to stay near the bottom without actually lying on the reef.
