Little Wattlebird

Here contemplating a tasty nectar dinner is a Little Wattlebird. I don't understand why they are called Wattlebirds because I can'r see any Wattles.

I got this fellow at Somerset on the northern coast of Tasmania. The Tasmanian race is somewhat darker than the nominate mainland race, as can be seen here.

#188 in my species set - inching towards the double century!
