PASCUA AND PESACH: PEACE AND FREEDOM

This statue of Ghandi is located on the Southwest corner of Union Square in Manhattan. It is situated appropriately in its own special garden which is in bloom from early spring to fall. The statue is often decorated with garlands of flowers placed by those who admire him and what he stands for. In my opinion he is one of the most important figures of the twentieth century and a model for all of us. For more on Union Square see

I use the Romance word for Easter (here Spanish) to show the intimate linguistic connection between the names for these most important christian and Jewish holidays, which this year come together in time, as they did of old and in some calendars even now. For a very informative discussion of Easter and its relationship to Passover, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter

My personal interest in Ghandi is related to my professional work as a Tolstoy scholar. As is well know Tolstoy was a major influence on Ghandi as he was, along with Ghandi, on our own American hero of Peace and Freedom, Martin Luther King. For an overview of the life of Ghandi, see
