A small fly struggles to regain its footing after falling down a "hill" of sand. It's not dead; it did keep falling over while trying to walk on the sand though. The surface is ordinary beach sand. When viewed at this magnification an amazing array of colors are apparent in the seemingly uniform sand.
While spending a day at the beach I decided to see what interesting things I could find with my macro lens without leaving my beach towel. This is the first shot of what will be a short series showing the variety in this small location.
