my technics died – I NEED A NEW TURNTABLE!

    Newer Older

It gave a disagreeable HUMMMMM when I attached it to my amp last weekend. I decided it could only be the wiring. Half an hour of soldering and two leftover parts later, my conclusion is it is dead.

Anyone have a turntable to spare? Preferable a TECHNICS, SL1800/181010, 1300 or even a 1200?

Just to be sure-- you did try replacing the cartridge, right?

      No spares here, sorry.

I replaced the interlink and the stylus, not the cartridge.

Could there be anything wrong with the cartridge you think?

It would be the first thing I'd try replacing, actually. I don't know about the technics tables, but in most tts the cartridge is nearly directly connected to the preamp. Nothing active in between.

I'll try and find a replacement cartridge. After blowing EUR30 on a stylus I ruined in the process, I'm not all that eager to spend any more on this table.

How did you manage to ruin a stylus?

Just see if a friend has a cartridge you can use. The nicer tables have that nice screw-lock mechanism anyway.

Or just drop it off at the Vadsige Vrolik with a gram of heroinskunk and pick it up 4 years later..

That may just be the best tip yet, Divwerf... I had been thinkin' of Keessssssss already.

Hey, Would you add this to my Technics turntable group?

UPDATE: I gave it another go last year, it turned out that some of the soldering was done badly, resoldered some of the connections and now it zooms at 331/3 like it never did before :)
