Dorset: A Portfolio II, Dorset, UK

    Old Harry Rocks, Dorset, UK

The second photo in my portfolio of Dorset.

This was taken at Dawn from the cliff edge. It was dark as we began our walk to the coast - a wind-up torch didn't do much to shed light on our path and as you can see, the cloud ensured we had no stars or moonlight to help guide us so there was some guess work going on.

The place was as tranquil as this scene suggests. A beautifully calm, turquoise sea, the sound of sea birds enjoying their morning whilst the clouds teased with the blazing orange sky behind.

{JO}, Michael Mehl, and 36 other people added this photo to their favorites.

Lovely work as usual Richard, I love the hint of colour in the otherwise heavy sky!

Excellent work. What I really like is that you have decided to concentrate only on the two stacks and to exclude the main cliff, which is unusual.

Stunning Richard! I have just got home from a 2 day stay down in Swanage, old harry was on the cards but as I've never been I played it safe at Kimmeridge, Durdle and Swanage :) This looks like the place to hit up next visit! Great image :)

I really like how the clouds seem to compress the scene here Richard - it's almost as if the rocks are in miniature. The flash of light works beautifully too... By the way, I've seen shots from this vantage point but haven't worked out quite how to get there - where is it?!

I was at some of the NT beaches in Studland a few weeks ago and these were barely visible from the wrong side, plus I know they're much nearer Swanage but that's about it... 2.5 hours from me so forgive my Dorset knowledge!

Really like this Richard - really like the blanket of cloud which pushes you down to the sea and the faint sunrise in the background
