Towboat AMERICA, New York , 1852 - James Bard
James and John Bard were two artists that won the respect of steamboat owners throughout New York and New England. Their principle commissions came from those owners of the Hudson River steamboats, yet concentrating on the various vessels that operated in and around New York Harbor and Long Island Sound.
This painting depict the famous towboat AMERICA as she first appeared on the river in 1852. The painting was discovered at the Albany Institute of History and Art while I studied there as a young art student during the '60s.
