    The Arctic Oscillation is an alternating pattern of atmospheric pressure and other conditions over and around the Arctic that can influence sea ice conditions on the Arctic Ocean and Northern Hemisphere weather. Ignatius Rigor of the University of Washington provided this graph for a New York Times Dot Earth post.
