Cat Palace

The latest enhancement to Share-It Square in Portland's Sellwood neighborhood: A solar-powered cat palace. Except for the solar electric components, it's made totally from natural and recycled materials. According to Mark Lakeman of City Repair, as quoted in the Sellwood Bee, "The project is a kind of “solar skyscraper” integrating several vertically-oriented feline-friendly environments – which include a solar-powered (cat proof) aquarium, solar-powered lighting, spiral stairs and woven rails, passive solar heating and cooling, soft pillows, a 360 degree sky viewing platform with a radial metallic roof and prismatic skylight, numerous artistic elements including a mosaic cat effigy, garden views, and a self-service catnip dispenser."
