Western Tibet is a land of contrasting fortunes. The region is still home to vital traditions of folk music, dance and operatic song; while both men and women proudly wear their distinctive costumes, and horse-drawn carts can frequently be seen trundling through outllying villages.


Saga county in North Lato is the region occupied by the upper Yarlung Tsangpo ཡར་ཀླུངས་གཙང་པོ་ or Brahmaputra and its tributaries: the Rukyok Tsangpo and Kyibuk Tsangpo.
