Cortinarius hemitrichus

Cortinarius hemitrichus (Pers.) Fr. 1838

Specimen # SM-436 of the Mukhrino Macromycete Collection.

A relatively easy-to-recognize small fungus, a common sight in mixed taiga forest. Its slender stature, acute umbo on the cap and contrasting white squamules are good fieldmarks. A similar species, C. flexipes, is distinguished by its strong smell very similar to that of crushed geranium leaves.
