Great Spotted Woodpecker

Dendrocopos major - Great Spotted Woodpecker - большой пёстрый дятел

I was watching a family of Redstarts when I saw a woodpecker on an aspen tree nearby. Very poor lighting that day and in that particular place, so I'm posting these purely for the record since I rarely get that close to them (no crop here at 420 mm).

It's stunning!! I'd be very pleased with this indeed! They often hide behind the trunk when I see them!
