Chicago MCM: Colored Glass Block
Colored, geometrically indented glass blocks such as these are an extremely common decorative detail on 1960s apartments and houses in the Chicagoland area. Typically they feature a solid, opaque color coating on the outside, with the inside left clear. They can also be found with the clear side facing out, or without the color glazing. The non-colored ones can be totally clear, or they can have a translucent colorless panel inside to create a frosted effect. The geometric pattern is repeated on both sides of the block, and light can pass through them, creating a glowing effect from the outside at night.
