    We picked grapes for about 4 hours, starting at 7 and ending around 11am.

    The harvest was very late this year, as the owners try to salvage their crops. Too much rain ruins grape crops, as the grapes aren't as sweet. We had rain every day for nearly a month in June/July, when the grapes are ripening. The owners delayed the harvest until the last moment to let the vines dry out and the grapes to sweeten. However, this runs the risk of molds setting in.

    About thirty volunteers (fans of the vinyard) showed up and picked 2.4 tons of grapes. Kathy and I guess about 40% of the crop was ruined and was dropped on the ground instead of harvested.

    Flat Creek Estate makes a nice Sangeovese the call the "Super Texan". Yum!
