Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI
The ideal low light lens. The ideal portrait lens. The ideal general purpose lens.
A lens with quite a story. It was dropped in around 1983 by its previous owner. In late 2007 it crossed the Atlantic and found its way in my hands.
This is a lens that I will savour for years to come. The images it makes are fantastic. It has a very warm quality to its pictures.
The fifty is such a great focal length. It seems to match our eyes perfectly. When I mount it on an APS-C camera, everything appears to have to right perspective, the right proportions. It's a cunning liar, and an honest storyteller.
This is an AI lens (not an AI-S).
