Life is made up of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of gray cement.

Life is full of these little joys that set my soul aloft: the sensation of breath dancing in a swirl of fog on a winter morning; the way dust particles catch the light in the afternoon sun and suspend in a freefalling twirl; the rhythmic clang of rain on a tin roof; grass beneath bare feet and sand between toes; the crisp scents of cedar and pine and grapefruit; a sunset kissing the horizon in a fiery blaze of passion; wind sweeping through an open field on an August afternoon; the faithful ticking of a clock in a silent room, thumping on and on and on like a slow and steady heartbeat.

I want to gather them up and string them together and twine them tightly around my heart.
