foundation and chimney
It was the war that brought my family to Dodge City in 1943. My dad managed an ice plant adjacent to the Santa Fe tracks that supplied ice to cool box cars of food needed for the war effort.
One favorite story my dad liked to tell was of taking me to work with him when I was five years old. One day he and some friends were sitting around visiting between trains, and I brought them all, one at a time, of a cup of water to drink from the office bathroom. They thought it was pretty cute until they realized that I was too little to reach the faucet in the sink.
