RDECOM deputy chief of staff retires

Research, Development and Engineering Command Deputy Chief of Staff Dick Belmonte retired from 37 years of federal service in a July 28 ceremony at the Edgewood Conference Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Major Gen. (Ret.) John Doesburg, former RDECOM commanding general and former commander of the Soldier and Biological Chemical Command, officiated at the ceremony.

Doesburg presented Belmonte with the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his years of service and outstanding achievement.

George Collins, Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, told Belmonte at the ceremony that he is a "first-rate professional ... committed to working with diverse groups to create policies that helped make this a better place to work."

Collins thanked Belmonte for being a mentor.

"You always kept your door open and really listened to those that were in need," Collins said. "You consistently provided well-thought-out sage advice on a wide range of issues."

Special guests included Belmonte's wife, Luann; his daughter, Kathryn; Dad and Mom, Armando and Germaine Belmonte; sister and brother-in law, Cheryl and Bart Laganelli; nephew, Jeffrey Laganelli; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Linda Belmonte; Luann’s uncle and aunt, Burnie and Janie Neal; and long-time family friends, Randy and Bernadette Loiland.
