Breakfast in Naha's old market
This lady serves early breakfast mainly for the sellers and workers in Naha's Nuren Ichiba market.
On this day, she was serving rice and luffa miso soup.
Luffa is quite common in Okinawan dishes, but rarely eaten in the mainland of Japan. It tastes like an eggplant, I would say.
"The weather is quite strange these days," she said. "I don't have to turn on an air conditioner or even a fan at this time of the year."
