The Dunker Church

View of the Dunker Church on the Antietam Battlefield. It was near this spot that the Confederate forces under General Stonewall Jackson barely held off waves of Union troops seeking to dislodge them from this position. The fighthing here would later earn Antietam the distinction as the deadliest day of the Civil War.

Note: The Dunker church that you see here is a recreation of the one that was reduced to rubble after a storm in the post-war period. Because the church had been extensively photographed in 1862, the recreation of the building was a straight forward affair.
