Snow Covered Cinder Cone, Lassen Volcanic National Park

    Newer Older

The trail to the Cinder Cone is about 1.2 miles. The climb up the 6,900 foot sumit of the Cinder Cone is about 500 feet according to my GPS. The snow made the climb relatively easy because there were steps in the snow from previous hikers. When there is no snow on the trail up the cone, the hike is a little more taxing because the ash is like sand. This photo was taken on the north east side of the Cinder Cone. The far side of the cone is exposed to more sun and has very little snow. View large.

The Cinder Cone is on the remote northeast side of Lassen Volcanic National Park which is about a 2-3 hour drive from Chico.

The snow does sound like an improvement for the climb...
