மெய் எழுத்துக்கள்

In the Madurai Nayakar Mahal museum, is this little yellow board, 2 of them, that explains the evolution of the Tamil Script through the ages.

The Tamil Script - called Vattezhuthu (வட்டெழுத்து) - is comrpised of three parts - The Vowels (உயிர் எழுத்து/Uyir ezhuthu - Uyir meaning life), The Consonants (மெய் எழுத்து/Meyy ezhuthu - Meyy meaning true/strong/real) and a third which are the letters formed by the union of the Vowels and Consonants called Uyirmeyy Ezhuthu.

This board shows the growth/evolution of the Consonants
