Tribute to forefathers

A must see View Large On Black

In India, it is a custom for the younger generation to offer tribute to their forefathers by offering them water (the flow of life) during the dawn and dusk. While some people do that once in a year, there are some who do that everyday. As the custom goes you first take a bath in a holy river as a purification ritual and then offer water to your forefathers. In Bengali we call this as TARPAN.

As I was strolling by the banks of the river Hooghly in Calcutta, I saw some people taking the bath and then offering tribute to their forefathers.

I dedicate this picture too to my forefathers.
