My Sister Saved My Life

On May 22, 2007 my sister, a healthy 43 year old mother of 3, died inexplicably in her sleep. Shorthly thereafter I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome, a rare genetic disease characterised by abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) findings and an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. On August 5th 2007 I completed a 2-day 200 mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown and the next day received a surgically implanted defibrillator that likely saved my life.
