      i think it was said he just pays the fine. the vehicle is still registered with the state i am sure, he just doesn't like the look of the plate mucking up his car, aesthetically speaking... he is certainly wealthy enough to pay a $25-50 fine, every day, for the rest of his life.

      as i recall, there was a story of steve's personal plates being repeatedly stolen, so he got some sort of dispensation to drive w/o a plate attached, but in the car.

      There is a "loop hole" in CA where vehicles that are less than six months old do not require plates...so Jobs worked out a deal with the dealer to pick up a new car every six months. The dealership could likely sell the Jobs-owned car for more than a new car.
