Fujifim FinePix X100's field testing.

My experience :

I used the Optical Viewfinder (OVF) mode most of the time.

As you know, I am more a reportage photographer. Responsiveness of the camera is crucial to me in capturing the right moment.

Finepix X100 is the fastest compact that I have had used before. It is responsive and yield great result from amazing colours, contrast, great ISO, sharpness and fast focusing.

I love the retro of a rangefinder styled compact. I love the aperture ring and shutter dial. I do not have to lift up my eye from the viewfinder while adjusting the settings, It is just like the great old time when I owned the Contax RTS II and III. That allowed me to capture panning shot easily.

I love this camera. It has the ability to cope with challenging issues in the street.

The 35mm lens (after crop factor) is just great. Am I limited by the lack of zoom ? No! As you can see, I do not miss the moment even with a fix lens. Its all about anticipation and move to the right place at the right time.

Thank you Fujifilm for this great camera! I hope I can have a free one! heehee

Lovely image! What is the autofocus like (and the manual focus for that matter)? I read some complaints about it...
  • Mio Cade 4y

ben carias The autofocus is excellent for a compact. But at low contrast situation it can be tricky. However, 90% of the situation it has no problem.

Manual focus is slow and clumsy, least to me... some would try to compare the manual focus with a Leica M9...but that is stupid... it is never the strength of this compact. :-)
  • ben carias 4y

Mio Cade Ok thanks of the info! I would use it for street phtography where timing is the key, so any problems with focusing would worry me before thinking about buying this.
  • Mio Cade 4y

ben carias For street photography, I would suggest you to use the OVF mode. Its instant!!! Minimum focus distant is 80cm so got to adjust your distance.

For street candid, you may wish to shoot in waist height.... adjust and pre-focus manually to around 2m - 3m.
