Sukhna Lake at Dawn

This is Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh, at dawn. In the far distance can be seen the Shivalik foothills. Sukhna is the largest man-made lake (3 sq. km) in India, created by building a dam across the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream that brings water from the hills to the plain below.

In UK, the world and his dog seem to be out toting an SLR. Not so in India. A Sardarji walked past, staring at me and mumbling sarcastically , 'Wah ji!' He was followed by a couple of young(ish) women walking by, wondering if there was a canoe race later in the day, while I smiled inwardly, having inadvertently been elevated to the status of a professional sports photographer. What made my day was another Sardarji, who looked well educated and possibly from the merchant navy or the armed forces, who smiled, wished me good morning and commented, 'I hope you get the best photograph.' I just love Chandigarh!
