Pink-backed Pelican (best in original)

Smaller than the Great White Pelican with rather drab plumage (though they do have a nice pink hue over the back when breeding).

These birds are that bit more nimble than their larger cousins and tend to nest in tall trees (Great White Pelicans need large undisturbed reedbeds for nesting).

Image taken from a boat on Lake Naivasha, Kenya after I had managed to curb the boatman's enthusiasm for motoring through flocks of waterbirds!

Here is an image of them on the nest: www.flickr.com/photos/rainbirder/8470487545/in/photostream

and one of a perched bird: www.flickr.com/photos/rainbirder/4609119511/in/photostream
