dog-faced fruit bat

    Newer Older

Inside the bat cage (not the batting cage). I was given the rare and fascinating experience of stepping into some of the bat cages at Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Just me, my camera, and 160 live bats. I didn't have much time but it was great to have the chance to document part of a great conservation movement. I'll post more pictures soon.

Awesome shot! I grew up in a house with a huge old barn full of bats. They would fly out every night like the opening credits of Scooby Doo. They did do an excellent job on the skeeters - even though we lived right next to a marsh, we had very few.

Course they would get stuck in the house and fly around and scare us sometimes.

And it totally looks like Stellaluna too!

I'm laying here with my son and as I'm reading your caption he says "I hate that picture it scares me, please go to the next one..." but I was thinking the same as one of the above comments....the bat does look kinda cute. :)
