ghost light

Masonic Temple, Detroit MI

In theater, a "ghost light" is a single bare-bulb lamp left burning in the middle of the stage all night when the theater is completely deserted. This is said to be for the ghosts to perform their plays. It's an old tradition that people of the stage are afraid to break.
