Heteropteryx dilatata

The female is brightly colored and much larger then the male. She is armed with sharp spines, especially on the hind legs. It will reach upward with it's hind legs, and attempt to grab whatever is disturbing it. It can inflict some deep painful scratches and even draw blood. It's wings are small and vestigial. It stridulates, making a loud rasping sound with it's wings when disturbed.
