Peace Corps Mauritania 1996-98
A collection of photos from my two intense years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mauritania, West Africa. I was posted as a Water Sanitation/Community Health Volunteer, but ended up doing some agricultural projects in addition. I learned technical skills, improved my French, and learned Hassaniya - a dialect of Arabic. I lived in a mud house in a rural village, used a motorbike, and was rather hungry and skinny for over two years. But it was the most amazing thing I've ever done, and no amount of description could do it justice. Looking at these photos, it suddenly seems that I don't have as many as I wished. Too bad digital cameras weren't the norm ten years ago.
