Staircase of the Vatican Museum

    Newer Older

The Vatican Museums (Musei Vaticani) are the public art and sculpture museums in the Vatican City, which display works from the extensive collection of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Julius II founded the museums in the 16th century. The Sistine Chapel and the Stanze della Segnatura decorated by Raphael are on the visitor route through the Vatican Museums. As of November 2006, it was visited by more than 4,000,000 people for the year.

isn't there a place in New York City that has a spiral staircase like this? I believe is a museum or something. nevertheless, the image is awsome.

... wow, how many of us have this precise shot?? I took the exact same photo on my study abroad trip. Don't get me wrong, it's a great shot, it's just incredible so many of us stood in the same spot, surreal if you think about it!

I like the idea that its a double helix, the secret of life, and installed more than three decades before Crick and Watson (and the brilliant Rosalind Franklin -- whose Xray Crystallography actually demonstrated that DNA was a double helix -- something she pointed out to Maurice Wilkins -- her boss -- who pointed it out to Crick and Watson, his bosses, who then Discovered this fact, winning the nobel prize for that Discovery -- for themselves, of course, but not for Rosalind whose only fault was to be female and to die young ----, but I digress) would describe this structure as the blueprint of life.
