1970, 3rd Bn QOR, Student Summer Training Program

This photo includes the recruit Riflemen wearing the Bush Summer dress, from the 1970 Student Summer Training Program (S.S.T.P.) as well as trained Riflemen wearing the Combat uniforms, who were employed for the summer in various tasks in the then called Toronto Militia District. The instructors for the S.S.T.P are also wearing Bush.

Cpl. Danny Hand, Cpl. Peter Szepes, Sgt. Emory Gilbert, Cpl Don Mitchell, Cpl. Ross Williams, and Cpl. Ralph Schoenig. The Course CO was the Capt. wearing combats beside Sgt. Gilbert. The 3 NCO's in the front rank wearing combats from the left are Cpl. Stan Miller (RIP),Cpl. Dave Pinkerton, and Sgt Jerry Senetchko.

Rfn Budden

- became RSM of the Regiment

- became the Pioneer Sgt.

- served with our NATO Brigade (4 CMBG) in Germany in 1971

 

Rfn Chan

- became RSM of the Regiment.

- joined the Royal Green Jackets (now The Rifles) of the British Army and served in Northern Ireland

- became a Captain in the Royal Canadian Artillery

- was a Skirmisher and participated in the filming of "The National Dream" showing the QOR using the CNR to participate in the North West Rebellion

- became a member of the Rifle Team

 

Rfn. Rob Grieve

- became a Pioneer and Skirmisher

- became a member of the Rifle Team

 

Rfn. Gord Engerer, Paul Chetcuti, Ted Abbot, became Skirmishers

 

Rfn. Tom Bradley became the Bugler for the Pioneers & Skirmishers

 

Cpl. Dave Pinkerton

- Was an instructing a recruit on the Grenade Range at CFB Borden when the recruit threw a grenade that did not go over the wall. Dave pulled him into the safety area, and covered the recruit with his body. Had Dave not acted the recruit would have been killed.

- joined The Parachute Regiment of the British Army

- was a Skirmisher

 

Cpl. Ralph Schoenig

- was only 15 years old when this photo was taken

- became the Pioneer Sgt.

- served with our NATO Brigade (4 CMBG) in Germany in 1971

- became a member of the Rifle Team

 

Cpl. Ross Williams

- became the Pioneer Sgt.

- served with our NATO Brigade (4 CMBG) in Germany in 1971

- won the Queen's Medal for Champion Shot (Canadian Armed Forces) on 2 occasions

 

Sgt. Jerry Senetchko

- won the Queen's Medal for Champion Shot (Canadian Armed Forces)

- was the Musketry NCO and Coach of the Rifle Team for several decades
