faking a broken wing?

mourning dove - my backyard

Update 2010/04/19: According to a recent episode of BirdNote, Mourning Doves (and other birds) are known to sun themselves, often in postures that give maximum sun exposure to the feathers. Usually in gardens where they are well camouflaged, they will rest for periods of time, with eyes half open. They aren't entirely sure why - whether it's related to rest, helping remove bugs, or otherwise.
