Today was one of those days where lots of little problems all came at me at once. So today's photo tries to symbolise that feeling, I've had this idea rumbling around in my head since November, so tonight I decided to give it a go.
I wanted to do this as one 30 second exposure, but in the end I had to resort to two cloned pics. I was very close but the background light was starting to fog the picture. I will probably have a go at something similar on a darker night.
Lightroom: White balance the shots, one to tungsten and one to flash, export to Photoshop.
Photoshop: Drop both pictures into separate layers on the same image, erase parts of the top layer to show the layer below, clone another sparkler trail into a gap, clone out bits of the background where the sky was showing, increase saturation, tweak brightness and contrast, USM sharpen, save to JPG.
Strobist: 580exii handheld @ 1/2 pointing upwards into the umbrella. The flash was fitted with a stoffen and the bounce card was extended to try and minimise the spread of light on the ground.
