VOX, Casablanca, Morocco, Fifties

    Newer Older

    Since: 1935
    Address: Place de France, Casablanca,
Film on Marquee: AGENT SPECIAL (SPECIAL AGENT, 1949)

"Casablanca — Un coin de la Place de France". The card was posted in 1950. VOX was a chain that had cinemas in France as well as it's protectorate Morocco, even in the Spanish part (in Tangiers mainly).
I assume the AGENT SPECIAL is the one from 1949. It's hard to figure out what Laurel & Hardy short is playing, as I'm not too familiar with their oeuvre.
The VOX closed in 1979 after a screening of Bruce Lee's BIG BOSS and has been demolished.

The 2,000 seat Vox was designed by Marius Boyer and it opened in 1935. The roof opened for ventilation in the extreme heat.

Hi Jalal, do you know if the Vox was demolished as well?

This brief article on the The Guardian website mentions the VOX in Tangiers having 2,000 seats and a retractable roof, perhaps both theatres had this?
