Key to the City: Louis Armstrong House Museum
#7 at the Louis Armstrong House Museum. We went from eating at Tortilleria Nixtamal (one of the other lock sites) to checking out Louis Armstrong's private bathroom. Still wish we got there in time for the house tour. We were told the house, including this bathroom, has been kept intact since the death of Louis' wife in 1983. Everything in the bathroom is original including the paper-towel roll.
Here's a little excerpt about why we got to see Louis' bathroom:
"Bathrooms were important to Louis. He was a huge promoter of the herbal laxative Swiss Kriss and often passed around little packets to friends and fans, including the royal family of England. He also created a personal Swiss Krissly slogan, Leave It All Behind Ya, which he circulated to family and friends."
I learn something new every day. ^_^
A citywide public art project in NYC that opens 25 spaces in all five boroughs. List of places the key unlocks is here. I'm definitely looking forward to unlocking a few places this summer!
