Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster (Red-bellied Grackle/Cacique candela)
Hypopyrrhus pyrohypogaster, although known from all three Andean ranges of Colombia, during the 20th century, it was extirpated from much of its former range and, since 1980, has been recorded very locally and in small numbers. Hence, its Extent of Occurrence (EOO) was estimated at just 3,680 km2 and the population conservatively placed within the band 1,000-2,500 individuals. However, this assessment may have been overly pessimistic because the species is still being recorded from new locations.
