AVIANCA - SCADTA C-65 Ford 5-ATC Hydroplane, Pato, Zaragoza, Colombia -EXPLORED-
Pato, Zaragoza, Antioquia, Colombia, 1941.
Here is my father taking a photo. Behind him is a Ford trimotor 5-ATC hydroplane. Each plane had a name, and this one was "Cartagena" in honour of one of the main sea ports in Colombia. It has AVIANCA aircraft name, but also the old SCADTA logo.
SCADTA started out as a small airmail carrier using Junkers seaplanes capable of landing on Colombia's Magdalena River. The German nationality of SCADTA's ownership forced the company to cease operations in 1941 after the japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Its assets were merged by the colombian government, forming the modern national carrier AVIANCA.
Airplanes were transformed in Colombia into seaplanes, since there were very few landing strips at the time. In the civil Aircraft Register-Colombia, there are 6 Ford 4-AT aircrafts from SCADTA and this is one of them: C-66, and the only one that has a photograph!.
