National Day of Prayer @ POM Chapel

PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. - The National Day of Prayer was observed at the Presidio of Monterey Community Chapel on May 3. The keynote speaker for the event was Reverend James E. Shaw, Chaplain (COL) US Army, retired. Shaw served 24 years on active duty as a US Army chaplain that included a stint as the Post Chaplain at Fort Ord, CA from 1973 to 1977.

Shaw's son, Chaplain (COL) Jonathan Shaw, also provided a benediction during the observance. The younger Shaw, during his father's time at Fort Ord, lived with his family in a house on Fitch Ave., just blocks away from Thursday's observance.

The National Day of Prayer was originally established by President Harry S. Truman in 1952 and later amended in 1988 to be held on the first Thursday of May.
